SOCIAL JUSTICE

As a person and as an entrepreneur, I am committed to running a business with social justice, ethics, sustainability and diversity at its core. But a commitment is nothing without action. This is what I will do:

  1. 10% of revenue from every single order will go to an organisation promoting either social justice or social inclusion. These will be generally guided by my belief in access to mental health and to land/outdoor spaces and to child safety and wellbeing.

  2. I will give my money to individuals and small businesses, not global corporations. This includes the materials I use for packaging my seeds but also any other products that I choose to stock. Where there is an option that provides employment or an income for a marginalised or discriminated against group, I will take positive action and give my money to them. I will be transparent with my supply chain and my processes in order to be accountable.

  3. Where I employ someone, either as a contracted employee or on a freelance basis, I will preferentially choose individuals who are disadvantaged in the job market in terms of their gender, age, ethnicity or status. This includes any photography work, design or coaching that I access as an individual or as a business. I will preferentially use apps and software, such as Canva, that are developed by women or Black people, or that are sold by female-owned or BAME-owned businesses.

  4. I will actively seek to promote the inclusivity of my images and writing across all platforms. This means using different styles and formats of growing so as to include those who have limited access to land, or who have small urban gardens.

  5. Where I can source from my local community, I will do so. I will support local amenities (my local post office), businesses and shops where at all possible.

  6. I will choose parceling, packaging and products that are inherently sustainable, that is, they do not use significant resources to produce, and they are reusable or compostable. Plastic will be avoided wherever it is possible, and alternatives actively sought. I will re-use materials that come into the business in terms of boxes and wrapping, either by using them when I send orders on, or they will be composted and used on the flower field. Where a light touch option is available, such as stamps over stickers, I will choose the most sustainable option.
