This day marks the start of High Summer

Fighting Temeraire

Which means, of course, the turning of the wheel. A new chapter of blog posts, roses, and the High Summer journal.

In my mind, summer is not one season but two. The beginning of June and the end of August could be different worlds, different colours, different landscapes. This journal is a celebration of High Summer - the glorious green months of June and July. When the sun is high in the sky and the sweet peas are fresh and lush and tall and twining. The dahlias are still in bud, for they are late summer inhabitants; this is the time of the rose.

As I write this on the first day of June, there is a warmth in the air. Clear blue skies, and the sort of weather than makes me rush out and hang sheets on the washing line. I hope you take this journal outdoors, maybe with a cold drink, or even an ice cream scattered with wild strawberries. I wouldn’t want you to miss a single minute of these most precious months.
