The dyeing of the light
Monday 7th October. This week has been mostly about the rain. I had hoped to experiment with drying dahlias and grasses. It has simply not stopped raining for long enough.
Tuesday 8th October. The business is on the up. People in London wanted to talk to me about things. I was born in London. I spent some of the finest years of my life there. I was so excited to be going there, to arrive there, and within two hours of being there, I was ready to be back in the country. I soothe myself with endless coffees and photographing words and symmetry.
Wednesday 9th October. Back to reality. Everything is heavy in the rain. Blooms, full of water. Droplets sit on leaves and petals. I wonder if city life would be so bad after all.
Thursday 10th October. Another city. This time Bristol. A wonderful day of learning and chatting and catching up. Home to packing sweet peas. Piggy Sue is going out in fat envelopes. There is officially on a run on them and my inbox is full of people desperate to get their hands on the precious packets.
Friday 11th October. Mushrooms start to appear everywhere I look. The smell of autumn has not arrived yet, but there are signs. I roast squash with the seeds from the bolted fennel. I light candles in the shortening evenings.
