August

I thought the summer was over. There was a chill in the air, and I had long boots on for work. I bought three new cookbooks: (this, this & this) and my fingers turned the pages to roasted vegetables and tray bakes.

Then the grey cloud cleared and the sun was strong. Irritatingly so; sunshine is terrible for photography. Also, terrible for working out what to wear in the field. In one day, I have done jeans, shorts, woolly jumpers, flip flops, and everything in between.

Great for hoeing though. And for lighting ovens and roasting the kitchen garden harvest.

And, for drying garlic on a hot tiled roof.
