What is in flower in April

What flowers are out in April

I cannot pretend that my flower field is awash with colour in early April. Much of it remains compost coloured, but there are shades of rhubarb and custard if I look carefully.

The first tulips are a soft but strong pink, the narcissi a buttery yellow. The last of the autumn flowering blossom and the first of the ‘Tai-Haku’. I can strongly recommend an afternoon lying in the grass, watching bees in blossom, as a recipe for bliss.

Later this month the bluebells will be out in full force, and it will be magic.
